Overview of teacher competences
This section contains a summary of the project group’s work on distilling from the frameworks and instruments reviewed the key areas of competence related to language teaching and languages in education more generally. These are linked to experiences and opportunities that might enable teachers to further develop their competences.

Conclusions of the project

This document proposes a taxonomy of categories and examples of teacher competences for languages in education. Its principal aim is to describe and illustrate competence dimensions for the role of languages in education that are relevant for any teacher, whether they teach languages or other subjects. The rationale of the document is to consider the commonalities of relevant teacher competences across different disciplines, including foreign language teaching, teaching the language of schooling as a subject, and the language dimension involved in teaching other subjects.
