The European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages (EPOSTL, 2007) has had a major influence on teacher education and has already been translated into 11 languages. It contains an overview of the competences needed by teachers and is a tool for self-assessment for student teachers and for practising teachers. The Portfolio provides checklists relating to the specific competences for planning and teaching lessons, for assessment, methodology and use of resources, as well as a dossier to prompt reflection.
