From 8-10 June the third and final workshop of the project ‘Improving pedagogical practice together’ took place at the ECML. This project was organised by the Confidence Building Measures Division of the Council of Europe’s Directorate of Political Affairs and was attended by 25 teachers from the Tbilisi, Sukhum/i, and Gal/i regions.
The overall aim of the project was, on the one hand, to gain insights into innovative methods of teaching foreign languages and developing intercultural awareness and, on the other, to strengthen relations between teachers of these regions by means of dialogue and cooperative activities.
The project consisted of three workshops, two held in Istanbul and the third in Graz, at which the language teaching experts, David Newby and Mercè Bernaus presented innovative approaches related to the language policies of the Council of Europe. Between workshops participants implemented cooperative school-based projects based on insights from the workshops. The presentation of these projects at the final workshop bore witness to the successful implementation of interactive teaching methods and to the close cooperation between teachers of the various regions.
