The challenges of working in linguistically and culturally diverse educational contexts are complex and require innovative educational approaches. The ECML provides opportunities for joint collaboration in order to promote educationally appropriate and supportive approaches in line with the Council of Europe’s values of human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The outcome of one such collaboration took place on 22 May 2023 when Andrea Young, professor of language education at the Faculty of Education and Lifelong Learning of the University of Strasbourg met with language professionals from the Ministry of Education and Science, the State Inspectorate of Education and the Center for Professional Education and various universities in North Macedonia at the invitation of the Language Implementation Agency (LIA) of the Republic of North Macedonia in Skopje. Presentations and discussions focused on how schools can implement plurilingual education and the benefits of such approaches.

Prof. Young and the ECML extend their thanks to the director of LIA, Ardian Musliu, and the project coordinator, Llazo Matovski, for their efficient cooperation and warm hospitality and wish all the seminar participants well with their future endeavours to promote pluringual education in the Republic of North Macedonia.
