The workshop gathered 50 National nominating authorities and National contact points from 33 member states of the ECML. It was moderated by Pille Põiklik, Vice-Chair of the ECML Governing board and National nominating authority for Estonia, and the two ECML programme consultants, Chantal Muller (Belgium) and David Newby (Austria).

The event provided them with a networking opportunity and a chance to exchange experiences on the roles of National Nominating Authority and National Contact Point, and to pick up new ideas from the examples of good practice presented by colleagues.

The workshop was extremely valuable in terms of information, inspiration and learning. National representatives had, in particular, the opportunity

  • to familiarise themselves with the new resources resulting from the 2020-2023 ECML programme “Inspiring innovation in language education: changing contexts, evolving competences” and to share good practice in their dissemination and use in the national contexts;
  • to discuss ways of boosting participation and engagement of the language expert community in ECML activities;
  • to get informed about the draft survey planned for the evaluation of the 2020-2023 programme which will provide an overview of the programme activities and to evaluate the impact and outreach of these activities in the member states; and
  • to get an overview of the new programme 2024-2027 “Language education at the heart of democracy, including the new call for Training and consultancy (TaC) activities with a view to encouraging nomination of participants and national requests for TaC events in 2025.

The National nominating authorities and the National contact points play a key role for the ECML by selecting the relevant experts in the Centre’s projects and activities, and by promoting the Centre’s work among national networks and interested groups/individuals in its 36 member states.
