Every year, around 20 March, International Francophonie Day is celebrated worldwide, not only in French-speaking countries but also in regions where French is less prevalent. For the 2025 edition, the chosen theme is "I educate myself, therefore I act" ("Je m'éduque, donc j'agis"). This theme highlights the importance of equitable access to quality education for all, in a world marked by rapid technological advancements. It also emphasizes the crucial role of inclusive education in promoting sustainable development and peace. On this occasion, numerous events are organised to showcase the richness and diversity of the Francophonie.

The International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), which brings together 93 member states and governments, is actively committed to promoting the French language and cultural and linguistic diversity. It also works to support peace, democracy, human rights, education, training, higher education, research, and economic cooperation for sustainable development.

During the XIXth Francophonie Summit, held on October 4-5, 2024, in Villers-Cotterêts, France, the Council of Europe and the OIF established a cooperation programme to promote human rights and the rule of law, while encouraging OIF member states to ratify international and regional legal instruments. The collaboration between these two organisations was formalised through a joint declaration in 2008.
