On Wednesday 8th October Sarah Breslin, Executive Director of the European Centre for Modern Languages, delivered a presentation on Quality in Language Education, as part of the Council of Europe seminar on Quality Education at the Moscow International Education Salon. The seminar generated interest from the leading educational and academic community as well as from representatives of international institutions based in Moscow (i.e. the British Council, Goethe Institute, French Cultural Centre, some embassies etc.). Among the participants were the President of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Foreign Languages; the Vice rector of the Russian State University of Humanities and the Vice rector of Moscow State Linguistic University.

Sarah also visited a number of universities, including the ECML partner institution, Moscow State Linguistic University, where she met the Rector, Professor Irina Khaleeva. Colleagues from Moscow State Linguistic University are active in two ECML projects from the current programme: "Developing migrants' language competences at work" (LanguagesforWork) and "Signed languages for professional purposes" (ProSign).

Sarah also met with the Director and Deputy Director of the International Department of the Ministry of Education and Science to discuss the benefits for the Russian Federation of becoming a member state of the ECML. The exchange was positive and it is hoped that a delegation from the Russian Federation will visit the Graz centre soon to see for themselves.
