The conference represented the culmination of the four years of work of the ECML’s “Inspiring innovation in language education: changing contexts, evolving competences” programme, involving, among others, 9 projects, 1 think tank, 12 offers of training and consultancy and a series of initiatives developed with the support of the European Commission.

The event gathered 120 ECML stakeholders language and education professionals from 38 countries.

The programme included plenary presentations, speeches and a round table. A series of workshops organised along four thematic strands – Language teacher and learner competences, Transversal dimension of language education / Competences for life and work, Plurilingual and intercultural education, Languages of schooling; language in subjects – provided an efficient framework to present and discuss the new programme outputs and outcomes as well as envisaged links to activities in the 2024-2027 programme. Moderators and presenters focused in particular on inspiring and innovative aspects as well as complementarity of the new resources and training and consultancy activities, and gave a preview of the new ECML programme “Language education at the heart of democracy” (2024-2027).

The ECML expresses its deepest gratitude to all those involved in implementing its 6th programme of activities for their commitment to excellence in language education and the valuable results achieved.

The conference was strongly supported by the local and regional authorities of Graz and Styria.

The event was streamed in English and French and documented on Facebook. The conference recordings in both working languages are available on the ECML website along with a photo gallery.
