ECML resources

The work of the ECML represents a collective effort and determination to enhance the quality in language education at challenging times. The publications illustrate the dedication and active involvement of all those who participated in a series of international projects and training and consultancy activities. The promotion of the programme outputs and their adaptation to different learning environments is supported through National Contact Points in each of the member states of the Centre. Read more

Introducing learner autonomy in teacher education

Introducing Learner Autonomy in Teacher Education is the first in a series of six studies by the ECML and was initiated during workshop No. 3/97 `Language and Cultural Awareness in Language Learning/Teaching for the development of Learner Autonomy´, which was held in Graz. An international network was set up and supported by the ECML. Its aim was to produce and test in-service and pre-service teacher-training modules and implement learner autonomy. Learner autonomy has become one of the most important themes in FL teaching and learning today. This project primarily served to encourage teachers who work in a variety of settings, to introduce and promote learner autonomy. The publication is also supported by 19 activities for use with either teachers or learners. Each activity is intended to enhance learner autonomy in different ways.
