Charades!

Principal function(s): Game apps

Charades! is a multiplayer activity game where players act out words or phrases without speaking, while others guess what they are portraying. Players pick a deck of cards which will, depending on the chosen theme, provide words to guess. Then, they hold up the phone at forehead level, with the screen facing the other players, while they give clues to guess what the word is before time runs out. Charades! is available as an app and is free, yet it displays ads and some functionalities have to be purchased. It is developed by FatChicken Studios. Evaluation: Charades! is a platform that can help plan engaging group activities to practice a target language. Since it contains a variety of themed decks on different topics, it can aid in vocabulary acquisition. However, it requires active participation so that everyone gets a chance to practice their speaking. It includes other activities such as impersonation and trivia games. Charades! can also be used as an icebreaker. It is easy to use and requires minimal setup, making it suitable for various educational settings.

Cost: Free, in-app purchases
