In order to succeed, learners need to have a solid command of the language used in class, which is different from the language used in everyday non-academic situations. The project will provide subject teachers with practical procedures to identify the needs of their learners and to support them.

Study materials for teacher development
On Maledive website you will find ideas and information about plurilingual approaches. They have been designed to help teachers of the language of schooling (e.g. French in France, Polish in Poland) to integrate learners with other first languages into their classes, to get them to recognise the links between their own or their parents' cultural background and that of the school language - and at the same time to enrich the cultural and linguistic experience of all learners.

Language skills for successful subject learning CEFR linked descriptors for mathematics and history/civics
These resources highlight challenges for young learners in subject classes where the language of instruction is not their first language. The focus is on minimum language standards in history/civics and mathematics for learners aged 12/13 and 15/16. The language descriptors are linked to CEFR levels A2, B1 and B2 and available in six languages.

A virtual open course for educators
