Fostering digital citizenship through language education

The training activity will focus on the kind of tasks needed to help develop learners’ become social actors, capable of (inter)acting online in communities and with speakers of different languages and cultures and using digital technologies critically, ethically and responsibly. Tools (including artificial intelligence) useful to foster autonomy and to complete the tasks will also be presented.

Objectives of the activity

  • Raise awareness with participants of what it means to be a responsible citizen using languages and digital technology
  • Support participants to explore, implement and design reflective tasks and real-world tasks, adaptable to different contexts, in order to help learners experience and develop digital citizenship as they develop their language skills
  • Support participants to integrate digital tools to help learners develop their autonomy through real-world tasks

  • A profile of the “digital citizen” as a user of languages and digital tools and resources
  • A pedagogical framework for the development of digital citizenship in the context of language teaching and learning
  • A database of concrete and practical learning activities

Working languages

Trainings can be conducted in English, French and German.
