The CEFR Companion Volume: Mediation and other key concepts

Focus: Teacher and learner competences  Participants learn how to implement the action-oriented approach in teaching, learning and assessing languages, how to apply the principle of constructive alignment and how to align syllabi to the CEFR CV, how to address the four modes of communication in teaching and assessment, and how to create meaningful cross-linguistic and intralinguistic mediation tasks for use in teacher education and in classroom practice. Participants learn how to use the CEFR Companion Volume (CV) in their teacher education programmes and their pedagogical practices.

Objectives of the activity

To explore and practise…

  • how to design CEFR CV related modules and how to include these in language teacher education programmes;
  • how to encourage and prepare teachers to apply an action-oriented approach in their teaching and assessment practices;
  • how to motivate and prepare teachers to include mediation in their teaching and assessment practices;
  • how to select and develop effective materials for teacher education and professional development purposes
  • how to select and develop effective teaching materials, classroom activities and assessment tasks for use in teacher education and in professional development workshops.
