Getting into action research

The ARC-Spiral is intended to help you to start out on action research:

  • to provide encouragement for newcomers to action research;
  • to provide an overview of the steps to be taken;
  • to show that starting is never easy and that it is important to take small steps;
  • to show that the sky is the limit - there are always ways to continue and advance further;
  • to be used as a reference tool, especially for those not supported through an action research programme or established group.

Development

The ARC-Spiral is a cyclical presentation about Getting into action research.
During the ARC project we worked with colleagues from different educational backgrounds across the ECML countries and it became clear how complex the first steps in action research can be, so the spiral describes the different steps in the process, together with reference documents to provide both theoretical background and practical support.. We would like to stress that action research is always collaborative in some way and some of the materials are intended to stimulate discussion in small collegial groups and in the resources section of the website you will find materials specifically intended for workshop providers.

Action research is a bottom-up process. Please start from the bottom and work up.
