The work of the ECML represents a collective effort and determination to enhance the quality in language education at challenging times. The publications illustrate the dedication and active involvement of all those who participated in a series of international projects and training and consultancy activities. The promotion of the programme outputs and their adaptation to different learning environments is supported through National Contact Points in each of the member states of the Centre. Read more

Regional/Minority Languages in bi-/plurilingual education: Languages from near and far

Although plurilingualism represents an important feature within contemporary society, often, teachers are not well equipped to deal with language variation and the various forms this can take in European regional contexts. Also, their work is seldom given recognition when they try to elaborate strategies to promote understanding and the value of the varieties or languages their pupils speak when they are not the official or dominant school norm.
The different activities during the project demonstrated the transferability to other contexts of the proposed teaching processes. These focus on identifying languages and cultures and their similarities and individual characteristics, on collaborative writing with the aim of interculturality and on oral intercomprehension. The material is varied and environment- based: written and oral documents, electronic mail, platform, videos, films, blogs, etc.

WHAT IS ITS ADDED VALUE?

  • The teaching kit approaches plurilingualism as a learning process promoting interlinguistic reflection and intercomprehension between related varieties of languages or even "other unrelated languages".
  • The activities have been prepared and/or tested by the associate teachers in their classes.
  • The project website has been designed with hyperlinks to multimedia documents, subjects of teaching techniques validated in networks of schools.
