Romanica, a game app for Romance languages
Game apps
Description: Romanica is a game app by the French Ministry of Culture. It transports players into different worlds where they need to recognise the meaning of words and the language they belong to. The words are all from Romance languages, such as French, Romanian, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, Occitan, and Corsican. More words are gradually unlocked as users work their way up in the game. While progressing through the game, cultural information is unlocked and badges are awarded. Romanica is available for free download on Google Play and Apple Store.
Evaluation: Romanica is an entertaining way for learners to get familiarised with several Romance languages and practice vocabulary. It can be somewhat difficult to play without prior knowledge of these languages.
Cost: Free.
