iSLCollective, a platform to share and find materials for language teaching

Educational sharing

Description: ISLCollective is an online platform where language teachers from all around the globe share their homemade didactic materials for others to use. Teachers can browse the ISLCollective website to find a wide range of teaching materials, including worksheets, lesson plans, flashcards, games, and activities. They can search for resources by topic, level, and language skill. Materials are currently available in English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian. Once found, educators can download and use the materials in their language teaching lessons. ISLCollective is free to use is not open-source and does not require signing up or having an account to access and download resources. However, signing up for a free account allows users to contribute their own teaching materials, customise content recommendations, and access additional features on the website.

Evaluation: iSLCollective is a valuable and time-saving tool for language teachers to find and share their activities. They can get inspired by the work of fellows all around the world and find resources for virtually any time of planned activity. It can also be used by students to further practise topics seen in class and supplement language learning and teaching in various contexts, including tutoring sessions or homeschooling. However, there are quite several advertisements on iSLCollective, which might be confusing for younger students since these appear in different languages. It is also important to note that, for some languages, the amount of resources is rather limited, this being logical considering that iSLCollective was first thought only for English language materials. Basic IT skills are required to navigate the interface.

Cost: Free with registration.
