Inventory of ICT tools and open educational resources

Welcome to the Inventory of freely available online tools and OERs for language teaching and learning developed by the ICT REV project. The tools have been selected by and for language educators. There are different ways to search for tools and various examples below. You can also suggest a tool to be added to the Inventory.

LearnEnglish by the British Council, a platform for learning English

Autonomous learning

Description: LearnEnglish is an online platform for supporting adult learners in learning English. It features links to many online courses (live, self-study, personal tutoring) and online level tests, alongside a variety of resources organised under headings such as Skills, Grammar, Vocabulary, General English and Business English. Signing up is not required for use, but doing so provides access to additional features, such as tracking progress, participating in forums, or receiving personalised recommendations. LearnEnglish is developed by the British Council.

Evaluation: LearnEnglish is a valuable platform for learners to improve their knowledge of English. It features a simple interface that helps search and find suitable content. It offers information on online courses, grammar reference and tests, vocabulary exercises, games, podcasts, videos and more and all content is tailored to CEFR levels. LearnEnglish by the British Council can be usedfor self-study, classroom supplementation, exam preparation (such as IELTS or TOEFL), or simply for enjoyment and cultural enrichment. Overall, it is an excellent resource for learners of English, although users should be aware that there is an emphasis on paid courses offered by the British Council.
