Language education at the heart of democracy

This 4-year project explores effective and ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in language education for both learners and teachers. It investigates how AI tools can help teachers plan lessons, design materials, and conduct formative assessment in order to enable learners to utilise AI responsibly for higher-quality, autonomous language learning.

This project explores how foreign language classrooms may promote global citizenship. The project team will create resources to implement the pluriliteracies framework for deeper learning in order to make the foreign language classroom an inclusive space where students critically engage with global issues.

The project focuses on the implementation of the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (2018) in primary language teaching, for example in classes for the language of schooling, foreign languages and home languages. In order to provide practical support for teaching democratic culture in the language classroom, this project will develop resources for teachers of languages at the primary level.

The DeafSign project aims to promote sign language learning opportunities in Europe. It will provide guidelines and resources for policy makers and professionals working in the educational sector. The ultimate beneficiaries of this project are vulnerable deaf, hard of hearing and hearing signers from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds including deaf children and their families, deaf refugees and migrants, and heritage signers.

The overall aim of the project is to create CLIL teaching materials for different language and subject combinations that help secondary school learners develop 21st-century competences that are needed to engage critically with the kind of global challenges addressed through the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Teachers' plurilingual wellbeing supports successful plurilingual education. Teachers’ plurilingual wellbeing is described as recognising and valuing the potential of one’s own language repertoire and feeling comfortable with using it in a variety of personal and professional contexts. This project is for teachers interested in using resources to develop their own plurilingual wellbeing.
